"Whatever it is," Marion seconded Oswald, intently, "it can't be as
important as murder."
He raised his head and looked at her fully. "In life," he said quietly,
"there are some things more important that death."

At this point, they heard a key in the door. Oswald half rose, and then
stood up fully as Nicola, Hodges and Michael entered. He walked to the door
and spoke to them quietly (and into the other thread for a bit).
