And almost immediately he stumbled and fell ... and Florence Beaman let out 
a yelp of pain.

The lift was clanking up to the lower floor of the penthouse.

"Well," said Lucinda, "someone had better go and meet the man."

She began to edge her way towards the stairs down to the lower floor.
