And then there were several other toasts exchanged ... but it was a 
difficult thing to gauge.  People bumped into each other - and other people 
weren't where they were expected to be.  It was hard to determine who was 
actually present in the darkness, and who was not.

The piano continued to play undisturbed.  The lift had cranked away into the 
distance, and was even now doubtless collecting the ARP warden.
