Philip returned shortly after Evangeline's departure, bearing two glasses of
sherry precariously (but with no sign of spillage) in his left hand.
"Countess, Pamela," he said, offering the drinks to each person. "I thought
I saw Great-Aunt Evangeline over here...is she feeling quite all right after
the Lift Incident?" He spoke absently, as though his mind was still on Nola
Diamond's rudeness, and he was apparently making some effort not to look
back at the bar area.
