> Lucinda Skeffington-Nottle turned as they came in.
>
> "Oh - is the lift working again now?" she asked. "Who was stuck?"
>
> "Not me," drawled a voice from the door.
>
> It was Nola Diamond, the movie actress, radiant in dark green velvet.

Philip, still in the process of escorting Pamela through the door, was
obviously struck by Ms. Diamond's appearance; he was, after all, a young
man, and she a beautiful woman. Still, his steps faltered only slightly
before he caught up to Pamela, though his eyes still followed Nola as she
crossed the room.

> She moved towards Braham, Marjorie, Oswald and Warren where
> they stood by the drinks table. Marty Fitzroy - and everyone
> else present in the room - she ignored totally.
>
> "A martini," she announced. "With just a whisper of vermouth. Dry,
> darling, dry."

"There's a thought," Philip said. "May I get you something from the bar,
Pamela?" he asked.
