Dot's vision had been overlaid with a wireframe image showing the vectors of
the myriad of obstacles that faced her- so it only remained to her to make
sure that her own icon didn't intersect any of the lines on the grid. That
taken care of, she could then track the incoming, enabling her to keep the
bulk of the debris between her and the unidentified object seeking her- a
little more difficult, but she managed it with considerable aplomb. But
that did nothing for getting her closer to her target- she got the idea that
if she was not in the field of broken icons that her pursuer would be able
to overtake her in little time- her greater maneuverability and smaller size
worked to her advantage to keep it off of her. Looking to the dead icons,
she could see that many were merely programs- but there were a few avatars
here and there- meaning that people had actually died here. The fact that
the icons had fragmented rather than derezzed completely meant that they had
been attacked with overwhelming force- their terminus had been overloaded,
preventing garbage collection. Looking to her selection of defensive and
offensive programs, she didn't think that she had anything that could
directly withstand such
power- though she did have a couple of worm programs that could do amazing
things given time, and there was always her stealth suite- if she could
repair it on the move...

Dot looked around at the fragments, and considered her options. Maybe she
could write something together... She twisted toward the remnants of a
trace program and began putting together a distraction, adding features as
time permitted... which she didn't figure would be long.

Manipulating code on the fly was not a simple thing to do for most people,
but for Dot, it seemed to come more naturally than using a canned program.
Flitting about the field of wreckage, she cannibalized the code fragments,
even while keeping the intruder at bay by keeping large chunks of debris
between herself and it.

A small break in the wreckage let her see what she was up against, and
though her AI was not able to identify it, the icon was enough to give
nightmares. She could see why only parts of the avatars were present- the
other parts had been cannibalized to make the monstrosity she saw. It
warped depending on the angle one saw it at, and she make out multiple
broadcast frequencies coming from it, creating a horrid screech not totally
unlike the noises that Pretty had made...
