The software responded instantly to Dot's thoughts, her configuration
changing to a sleeker version of her avatar, angular, mechanical, and
armoured against the rigours of space. The curves in her route became more
angular as the software plotted vectors over her intended course.
"Translation in 5... 4... 3... 2... 1..."
The paradigm of the void of space disappeared, her POV changing to be purely
digital as Dot's user filters were removed. In a very real way, she was now
seeing a true representation of the Deep Ether- and in it's apparently
random scatterings of 0's and 1's she saw a form take shape- one that
closely resembled the long destroyed pattern.
As fast as her trip to this point had been, there was no comparison to her
movement in this state. She travelled as if along rails, zooming from one
point of her vector to another with no pause to change direction.
But just as quickly it was over, as she was jarringly translated back the
Ethereal paradigm. Looking around, she could tell that something was
terribly wrong, even before her HUD informed her that she was not in her
desired destination. Asteroids and detrius floated in space around her- a
graveyard of destroyed icons- spinning dizzyingly in the void as her nav
automatically adjusted to keep her out of harm's way.
Her translation software had been jarred out of phase by something that was
not in her databases, her stealth suite compromised, and her shielding
programs damaged. She was sure that she could repair it given time- time
that she apparently did not have.
"Incoming object on intercept course, approaching at unsafe speeds," a line
of blinking text announced, even as her AI attempted to perform a passive
probe of the object- and failed.
A blinking prompt at the bottom of her HUD let her know in no uncertain
terms that response to this threat had been placed directly into her
hands...
Dot's eyes widened. "Meep!"
She then tried to pull herself together, quickly. "Best," she muttered,
"to dodge." She began flitting about the debris field, looking at what was
left of previous intruders.
