Dot leaned up a bit, "it's sore across my right thigh, with sharp pain about
mid-way on the inside." Dot then leaned back, but kept her eye on the woman
that was tending her. Not afraid, or worried, but curious.

"Nessa," Kayle called to one of her assistants. A thin woman with stringy
blonde hair and rather severe features looked up from her ministrations to a
patient in the rear of the room. "Bring me that hypo-spray." In the
meantime, she checked out Dot's leg, moving very carefully, and not just for
Dot's sake. "Yes," she said finally, reaching a hand out to the woman as
she approached. Fiddling with the device, Kayle continued. "I see it- very
easy to miss. A sliver of glass-steel, most likely from what was left in
the doors from the last time, lodged itself in your thigh. It missed your
femoral by only a few centimetres, catching only the meat of your leg.
You'll be fine- once we get it out."
She turned to Nessa. "Wheel that surgical table over here," she said, even
as she did something to Dot's leg- there was a snap, a hiss, and the pain
disappeared.
"Ok," she said to Dot. "This is going to be a relatively minor surgery, but
I need to take care because of how close it is to your femoral." Turning to
the table, she sterilized her hands, and donned a pair of gloves. "I'm
going to need you to assist, Nessa." The woman was already prepping for the
surgery, so the statement was a bit superfluous- she approached Kayle's
right side, ready to work.
"Clamp," she asked, retrieving the instrument from Nessa. It was becoming
hard to focus- though the anesthetic was apparently local, the adrenaline,
energy used, and wound combined to take the edge off. "2 ccs amatropine and
forceps."
Even through the haze, Dot felt something tugging at her leg. "Be ready to
clamp that shut."

Asha looked on from the doorframe, still weak from her recent ordeal. "So,"
she asked noone in particular, "is there any need now to meet that- being-
on it's home turf? That was *too* close for comfort, and I'm even less sure
of our capabilities to handle it in the Ether."
Dot twitched, "it lives in the Ether?"
+++++
"It can live anywhere." Suhuy looked up, his usually marble like eyes
suddenly very calm. His voice was modulated, approaching pleasant, like a
professor speaking over the dissection of an etherized frog. "That's its
nature. Adaptability. But the flip side of that advantage is that it is not
only adaptable, but forces its host to adapt."
Asha looked at Suhuy with an expression of one seeing a monkey suddenly gain
the power of speech. "So then, you have an idea what it actually is? I
never thought it could exist out of the Ether- even in a host. From what
Rook said, Dara sent Morgan in to look for a Serpent, but instead he found a
Dragon. I don't know what in the world that means, but for some reason they
were very pleased that Morgan couldn't gain the Serpent's other eye for it."
She shrugged. "I wish that Rook was here now. I feel so over my head it's
not funny- sort of like a child faced with the daunting prospect of handling
adult..." She smiled self-consciously. "Forgive me. I'm rambling."
"So *do* you still need to see it? Will it help you?"
