Asha nodded weakly. She shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts, even
as she looked over the situation. "It appears that something is registering
to the KillSat, but only weakly." Her voice wavered, but steadily gained
strength as she talked. Coughing, she rested for a moment until the spate
had passed. "Since I'm assuming that none of you are causing this, it must
be that," she added, inclining her head in the cloud's direction. At that,
she finally noticed who she was talking to, and her eyes opened a little
wider at the unexpected presence, but she kept speaking.
"It's apparently weakened, though how, I can't fathom, other than some
interesting things must have occurred while I was unconscious," she looked
at those assembled musing. "But even in it's weakened state, I don't see it
taking very long to accumulate the power necessary to attract a laser from
above."
"I can't do anything about it, as it's source is too akin to mine."
Noticing how Suhuy deferred to the newcomer, she made some assumptions as to
his origins. "I fear that Suhuy would find things much the same. And
possibly yourself, also," she added, with the slightest upturn to the end of
her voice questioning this fact. Then she looked to Dot. "But perhaps if
the power came from another source..."
Dot, still holding the plantaxy, focused.
Mandor, still watching with interest, nevertheless took several prudent
steps backwards, drawing Suhuy with him.
Suhuy allowed himself to be pressed further away from Dot, and, from within
the folds of his covers, seemed to be both relieved and irritated.
"I'll have to observe her =some= time, if she's to be my assistant."
Dot seemed to waiver, just for an instant, in her concentration.
As Dot focussed on the cloud, she could see that it was indeed more powerful
than when she first encountered it. She could also see a haziness
surrounding it- almost a shimmering- and *something* beyond. Something
malevolent- she could feel it's anger in palpable waves. Whatever it was
doing had made the cloud more able to withstand her- for though it shrank
from the
power, she was unable to directly affect it.
She *did* however notice that when she concentrated on it, it seemed to
skitter (if one could do that in the air) away from her. She began sense
the same phenomena as Suhuy, as the hair on the back of her neck rose, and
she smelled a faint ionization in the atmosphere...
