"See you on the other side," Asha said, stepping through the portal.

+++++

And there was Dot, once again in a reality shaped by her whim... and no
Robert. She didn't dwell on it, perhaps as long as she normally would.

Her body rippled and became silvery and smoother, and electricity etched her
features.

She could feel herself slipping toward her normal shape and size, and she
let it happen.

She felt numbers take over, logic, and her shape did not change, but her
environment became more comfortable. She held up her hand and etched a
symbol for recurrsion, and a ripple flew out from her hand.

And then she decided to step through.

+++++

As she did, it was obvious that something was different, even before her
interface lit up like the cheap neon that she had seen on her visit to the
Ether. There were warring forces within the portal- the daemon that she had
released warred with another entity. Not a war of flesh and blood, but a
war of letters and numbers.

She knew that recursion was a tricky method of programming, though effective
in it's own way, using previous knowledge to power the next iteration of
logic. But it depended on massive amounts of processing power and speed,
and the size of your memory stack. And with that memory, the two bars that
flashed on her screen made sense, though she could not be sure if that
realization came because of her memory, or the AI that calmly intoned
warnings to go along with the visuals.

"Stack overflow imminent. Process ID 7540 utilizing 97% of available
memory."

Now inside the portal, she could see the daemon in a labyrinthine series of
corridors engraved onto the back of a larger construct. Bull-headed
creatures labeled <<microTaur 2.3>> chased the daemon as it attempted to
make it's way back to Dot's avatar, carrying a shining payload that could
only be the code to the portal. But it was obvious that it wouldn't make it
before it was either caught, or crashed her system...
