Just as suddenly, [Asha] snapped out of whatever fugue she had been in,
looking intently towards Dot.  "Are you wired?  Do you have a plug?"

Dot looked nervously from Asha to Suhuy and back.  "Ummm...  no, why do you
ask?"

"Most Alphas excel in the ether," Asha replied, still studying Dot, "even
those who normally have no aptitude."  She shrugged apologetically.  "I
can't tell you the specifics of it- I don't even understand.  Rook said it
had something to do with the way we were wired- 'less interference between
the synapses', whatever that means."

"I can't lead you to the upper levels- Chaos tends to draw unwanted
attention, and I am too tainted," she said matter-of-factly.  "For some
reason, Suhuy doesn't seem to exhibit the same qualities, even though he is
inimically of Chaos, so the two of you should be able to make it.  However,"
she added quickly.  "Without anyone to look over you, and without your
knowing where you are going, this would quickly become quite dangerous."

"The only answer to that, is to get you wired.  Are you willing?  How badly
do you want this?"
